Driver requirements

- Valid Class A CDL
- 2+ years of verifiable Class A experience
- 23 years or older
- No more than 1 moving violation in the last 3 years
- No DUI/DWI in the last 5 years, not in a SAP program
- Current DOT medical card and a passed drug screen
- Legal to work in the US
Owner-operators also need
- Your own tractor, owned or leased, with current registration
- Annual DOT inspection and an ELD
- Bobtail and physical damage insurance

How does percentage pay work?
You earn 30% of the gross revenue of every load you deliver. If a load pays the truck $3,000, you earn $900 for it, paid the following Friday.
When do I get paid?
Every Friday by direct deposit, for the loads delivered in the previous pay week.
Do I pay for fuel, insurance or the truck?
No. You're a company driver. Fuel, insurance, the truck and maintenance are company costs. You get a fuel card at orientation.
Are detention and layover paid?
Yes. Detention and layover are paid on top of your percentage.
How long am I out?
Most runs are OTR, 2–3 weeks out. Tell dispatch your home time in advance and we plan loads to get you home on schedule.
Is it forced dispatch?
Your dispatcher works with you on loads and routes. If a load doesn't work for you, talk to them and they'll look for another.
Do I touch the freight?
No. Our freight is no-touch dry van, mostly drop-and-hook.
Can I bring a pet or a rider?
Ask your recruiter. It depends on the truck and our insurance rules.
Can I start from my current location?
Yes. We'll cover your travel to orientation and you'll start from there.
Do you hire drivers in a SAP program?
No. Drivers in a SAP program or with a DUI/DWI in the last 5 years don't meet our insurance requirements.
How long does hiring take?
A recruiter calls the same day. After your MVR and PSP come back, most drivers attend orientation within a week.
Do I need to sign a long-term contract?
No. There's no long-term contract for company drivers.
How much do owner-operators get?
88–90% of the gross on every load, settled weekly by direct deposit. Your exact rate is agreed with your recruiter before you lease on.
Do I need my own MC and DOT numbers?
No. You lease on and run under the Holmes Auto Group authority (MC# 1488901).
Do you provide a trailer?
Yes. You pull a Holmes 53' dry van trailer.
What insurance do I need?
Holmes covers cargo and auto liability. You carry bobtail and physical damage insurance on your truck.
Do I get a fuel card?
Yes, a fuel card with fuel discounts, ready from your first load.
Can I lease on with an older truck?
Call a recruiter with your truck's year and mileage. It needs current registration, an annual DOT inspection and an ELD.
